Managing Change: Amellar Conducts Back-to-back Basic Training for RPTA System Administrators

Since 1994, Amellar is instrumental in revolutionizing Philippine Local Governance through the use of information and communication technology to yield such benefits as improved administrative efficiency, enhanced transparency and accountability, better public service and higher revenues among others. However, transition from traditionally manual into a computerized environment and sustaining it in the long run, is the tricky part. Dealing with change is never easy. As part of Amellar’s concrete plans to help client LGU’s in attaining these goals, we share with them some strategies in managing change brought by ICT projects. One of the strategies is the organization of a Technical Support Group composed of System Administrators, who are tasked to provide technical support services, ensure reliable operations and make certain that service-quality objectives are met, as well as promote efficient use of the Amellar computerized systems. Amellar trains these system administrators to ensure they will be able to perform their tasks well.

This year, Amellar conducted a back-to-back Basic System Administrator’s Training for some of its clients. On October 14 – 16, 2009 system administrators from Urdaneta, Tarlac and Candaba underwent the training at the Amellar Solutions’ Partner Support Department in Quezon City. Biñan administrators participated in the same training the following week on October 21 – 23, 2009 held at the Mezzanine of Biñan Municipal Treasurer’s Office.

As moderator and agents of change, the participants were familiarized with both soft and hard skills required by their tasks. The participants listened to lectures regarding key concepts in change management and customer service, the technical nature of their respective tasks, underlying legal principles of the revenue system, reference and utilities tables in the RPTA system, as well as database, hardware and local area network processes. After every lecture, related activities and exercises were also conducted to enable participants to apply what they learned.
